The Doms of Her Life

Thanks for being patient with me over the past few weeks while I got into the grove of work, and then I started school this past week, so I’ve added something new to juggle! But I’m back this week with one of my absolute favorite new adult series called the Doms of her life by Shayla Black, Jenna Jacob, and Isabella LaPearl!

This is a new adult, erotic/ BDSM romance series of four books all with the same main character.

Book description of One Dom to Love (book one) from Goodreads-

Raine Kendall has been in love with her boss, Macen Hammerman, for years. Determined to make the man notice that she’s a grown woman with desires and needs, she pours out her heart and offers her body to him—only to be crushingly rejected. But when his friend, very single, very sexy Liam O’Neill watches the other Dom refuse to act on his obvious feelings for Raine, he resolves to step in and do whatever it takes to help Hammer find happiness again, even rousing his friend’s possessive instincts by making the girl a proposition too tempting to refuse. But he never imagines that he’ll end up falling for her himself.
Hammer has buried his lust for Raine for years. After rescuing the budding runaway from an alley behind his exclusive BDSM Dungeon, he has come to covet the pretty submissive. But tragedy has taught him that he can never be what she needs. So he watches over her while struggling to keep his distance. Liam’s crafty plan blindsides Hammer, especially when he sees how determined his friend is to possess Raine for his own. Hammer isn’t ready to give the lovely submissive over to any other Dom, but can he heal from his past and fight for her? Or will he lose Raine if she truly gives herself—heart, body, and soul—to Liam?

Shayla Black Jenna Jacob, and Isabella LaPearl do an amazing job with this series. The BDSM portions are good, as well as the story behind the sex scenes.

The three characters and their arc great quite literally kept me glued to the book till very late at night several nights. And while the book does change POVs most of the time we’re in Raine‘s, but it’s super easy to tell who‘s POV is who’s just within a couple sentences into the chapter.

We’ve got Raine Kendall, the main girl character, who was raised by abusive father and abandoned by her mother, but she’s still so strong and spunky and immediately fell in love with her character from the first page. She has a habit of running when the going gets tough sometime, but this story wouldn’t be this story without that, and she does it to protect herself and after learning about her past I don’t blame her on it. And with Macen and Liam in her life she flourishes and as they show her she doesn’t need to run and they can be her strength when hers is missing. And, while she might have a natural submissive inside her, we see that it will take lots of work and trust for her to let go, which turns into some bratty moments sometimes.

Next we have Macen “Hammer” Hammerman. The big bad master Dom, BDSM club owner. He’s Raine’s protecter after her find 17 year old Raine hiding in the alley connected to his club. He cared for her, made sure she never wanted for anything while under his care. We also learn that Macen can’t cook to save his life, so once Raine comes into the picture she takes over all the cooking. Macen shields 17 year old Raine from the club, but she she gets older she starts seeing more and becoming more involved in the day to day running of the club. Macen wants Raine, but also wants to protect her and he thinks he’s not good enough for her and thinks she deserves better than what he could give her, so he pushes her away which is when his Irish best friend walks in. Macen can be a little too passionate sometime, and feeds off Raine and her emotions which means they clash sometimes.

The third main character is Liam O’Neil. The white knight Dom and Irish best friend. Liam is exactly what Raine needs at the exact time that Raine needs him. He‘s supportive, caring, companionate, all while still having an authoritative Dom voice. While Raine and Macen both have very heated tempers sometimes, he’s the calm they both need, which brings good stability to Raine. I would sometimes forget that Liam was Irish until he’d say something that an American wouldn’t say, or he’d call Raine lass.

The first book is a huge love triangle, so if you don’t like those then turn around now. The first book made me so torn on which guy’s side I was on. They both had such a pull over Raine in different ways. Raine and Macen’s fire is so interesting to read, but Macen has some things he needs to work out first. And the way Liam cares for Raine in just the way Raine needed made me keep reading to see where they would continue.

The side characters also add to the story in their own ways. There’s Ken Beckhman, or just Beck, the sadist doctor Dom, who I didn’t care for in the beginning, but he slowly grew on me throughout the four books. Then theres Liam’s best friend Seth Cooper a PI who swore up and down he’d never go to California, till Liam calls needing his help and he rushes over to help his best friend. The other side characte that I really liked and hope gets their own story doesn’t come in till book four and would be a major spoiler for the series if I said who it was, though I did guess in book two that this person would show up and I was right!

I‘ve read some books by two authors like the House of Night series, but this was my first series with three authors, but you honestly can’t tell that it’s three different people writing because it’s all so similar.

This is one of the only series that I own three different ways. I have them in paper back, ebook format, and audiobook form. I got the paper backs before going to a book signing in Austin a couple years ago where Shayla Black would be so I could get them signed, but still need to go meet Jenna Jacob and Isabella LaPearl to get them signed by all three.
