The Babylon Project

So The Babylon Project- Rise of Kronos by Kate and Elise Fry just released this past Wednesday December 1st! And I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of the book so I’m gonna share my review here as well as Amazon and Goodread!

First the blurb-

Battered by the whirlwind of other people’s emotions, Kailani Reed hides away from everyone except her close friend – and forbidden crush – Hideo Tanaka, her handler at the Seattle Police Department. Hired for her unique abilities, she just wants to keep her head down and do her job. So when a high-profile case draws the attention of the Feds, Kailani wants out. But the agents running the show have other plans.
Maela Driscoll, a quirky American postgrad in London, spends her days buried in books. To make ends meet, she takes part in a psychoactive drug trial – with unforeseen and dramatic side-effects. After witnessing a brutal murder, she is forcibly recruited by MI5 agent Emlyn Ryder, who has no intention of letting her new and unusual gift slip through his fingers.
When the body count starts to mount on both sides of the Atlantic, MI5 and the Feds realize the cases are linked, through a shadowy organization known as Kronos. But what does Kronos want? And can Maela and Kailani figure it out before it’s too late?
Slow build, slow burn, Rise of Kronos is the first book in The Babylon Project, a thrilling double reverse-harem series.

Now my thoughts-

We start off by following two different girls Kai, who’s in the US on the west coast in Seattle, and Maela who’s in London, England. Kai works as an independent person with the police department and Maela is a grade student before she gets pulled into M15. As the story progress they work, sometimes very reluctantly, with their teams trying to solve an international crime ring.

I usually stay away from books with multiple POVs mostly because I find it distracting and half way through the chapter I forget who’s POV I’m on, but this book made it so natural to switch in between Kai and Maela‘s chapters and I loved getting to know them both throughout the book.

Rise of Kronos wasn’t just a quick and dirty reverse harem book, it’s a slow burn keep you on the edge of your seat with the sexual tension sometimes book. And, because it was a slow burn you get the chance to really know all the characters in a way that’s more than just sex.

While I loved both Kai and Maela, I’d have to say that I found myself looking forward to Maela’s chapters just a little more, as a college student myself I felt like I was a little bit closer to her, and Maela’s internal dialogue was laugh out loud funny at some points. That’s not to say I didn’t like Kai and everything happening with her, I found her powers very interesting and Kai and Jonah’s back and forth was just as funny as Maela’s internal dialogue sometimes.

Kate and Elise Fry have definitely put a lot of work into this story. The storylines are complex and well thought out, and you can tell they’ve put a lot of time, energy, and research into this.

I can’t wait to see where Kate and Elise Fry take us in book 2!

Rise of Kronos is available on Amazon in both physical and ebook form, as well as kindle unlimited!
