This week I’m writing about the very popular booktok series- A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas.
Description from Amazon-
When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin--one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world. As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin--and his world--forever.
This series has been around for awhile, in fact the first book was published in 2015, but has become a super popular book series on the social media app TikTok. The first book definitely draws some parallels with Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, but once you get into the story, you see that they’re not as similar as everyone says, and the next two books don’t have any parallels with anything I’ve every read or seen before.
Maas does an amazing job with the world building in this series, from the very first chapter with Feyre in the village and hunting I felt pulled into the world that Maas built, and once Feyre gets to Pyrthian the world building gets even better with all the courts and creatures. Maas also does a great job of keeping a balance between the fantasy and romance, there’s plenty of story and character arc building and romance between Feyre and Tamlin without it being too much of one thing or another.
Im also super excited that Hulu has picked up this series for a TV show! It’s still in the very early stages, but I’m so excited to see the cast, and eventually the show!
Some of the names of people and things in the series can be a little difficult to pronounce so I included a pronunciation guide at the bottom of this post!
The books- the first three are from Feyre’s POV, then book number four is from Feyre’s sister Nesta’s POV
A Court of Thorns and Roses (book one)
A Court of Mist and Fury (book two)
A Court of Wings and Ruin (book three)
A Court of Silver Flames (book four)
